Principal Primary Design Engineer (Substations)

The main function of the role is to lead the HV Primary Engineering design delivery for electrical substation projects on the transmission network up to voltages of 400kV with the assistance of the Design Engineers and Designers. Preferably the candidate will have previous experience of undertaking TP137 Contractors Design Approval Engineers (CDAE) for National Grid projects or be in a position where they could be put forward for authorisation. In addition, the Principal Plant Engineer would assist the Design Delivery Managers in the day to day running of the engineers and technicians’ teams. The role also includes leading the team in planning and procurement responsibilities as detailed below for delivery of substation projects. Their team is flexible, and the role can be based in various locations across the UK. Key Accountabilities Lead the Design team to deliver design to the Customer specification requirements, ensuring compliance with relevant National / International Standards and legislation. Check and approve HV plant design deliverables e.g. single line diagram, layout/Elevation drawings, MEWP access layouts, SC force calculations, earthing design / calculations etc. Lead Design work with due regard to Health & Safety Procedures and the Company’s obligations in compliance with current CDM regulations. Any perceived risks and mitigation measures should be advised to Engineering Manager for effective action. The primary responsibility for an Offshore Convertor Platform (OCP) Structural Engineer is managing and reviewing design work undertaken by external contractors, to ensure it meets the requirements of the project. The role will predominately be focussed on the structural design of the OCP topside and Foundation, but may assist on other structural scopes (e.g. WTG Foundations) where required to meet project requirements. The role will report to the project Engineering Manager, but the project organisation is a matrix organisation and day to day direction of tasks may come from the OCP Package Manager, OCP Foundation Package Manager, and / or OCP Design Manager as appropriate. Support the certification process for the OCP, including managing elements of the certification process, and resolving issues arising. The Senior Logistics Engineer will support the development and coordination of logistic and installation concepts according to schedule during planning and construction until operation. This includes the collection of requirements, definition of scope, planning of time schedule and cost estimation. The Senior Logistics Engineer may have involvement in all transport and installation packages as resource requirements require, but as the project develops they are expected to predominately concentrate on one specific package. Significant experience in foundation installation and / or WTG installation is required, but some awareness and experience of cable installation activities will be seen as beneficial. Initially in the project they will support a Development Logistics Manager, and post bid will support the relevant Installation Package Manager(s). Functionally they will report to the project Engineering Manager. Depending on requirements and skills they may be asked to undertake the package management of certain parts of installation scope, under the direction of an overall package manager. The role will be based in London.   Key Accountabilities Discipline Inputs Support the technical definition, evaluation, planning, reporting and interfacing of the transport and installation activities. Including load in/out operations at manufacturers/marshalling port(s), transportation and installation of components, including handover(s), all in compliance with industry and company standards, and Health, Safety and Environment regulations and guidelines. Installation Engineering - Confirming method statements, risk assessments, lift plans, deck layouts, safety procedures, permits to work and related documents for all loading, transportation and offshore work is in place and accepted by the package Team. The successful candidate will have the proven skills necessary to build relationships with key internal and key GE pre-assembly stakeholders to ensure that WTG marshalling harbour activities are safely executed and an accordance with technical and quality requirements. Working as an integral member of the WTG Package team the WTG Marshalling Harbour Employer Site Representative shall manage WTG load-in and pre-assembly activities, as defined within the key accountabilities of this role. The role will be back-to-back with another WTG Marshalling Harbour Employer Site Representative and will work closely with the Employer Site Manager.  Key Accountabilities Role and Responsibilities are to ensure that all works undertaken comply with project specific requirements to include: Monitoring Contractor’s load-in & pre-assembly site activities and compliance with defined procedures. Tracking and monitoring of component movements and logistical planning. Monitoring Contractor’s load-out activities and preparations. Tracking the preservation of components in compliance with GE requirements. Produce a daily report of key activities and findings on site. Safety walkarounds with GE.
