Structural Engineer - Senior

The primary responsibility for an Offshore Convertor Platform (OCP) Structural Engineer is managing and reviewing design work undertaken by external contractors, to ensure it meets the requirements of the project.
The role will predominately be focussed on the structural design of the OCP topside and Foundation, but may assist on other structural scopes (e.g. WTG Foundations) where required to meet project requirements.
The role will report to the project Engineering Manager, but the project organisation is a matrix organisation and day to day direction of tasks may come from the OCP Package Manager, OCP Foundation Package Manager, and / or OCP Design Manager as appropriate.
The immediate role will be seconded to a large UK project within our clients portfolio. The project is currently in early phases of design. The role will be based in London.
Key Accountabilities
Structure Discipline (WTG Foundations & Offshore Substation)
  • Daily management of OCP design and (where relevant) execution scope.
  • Support the certification process for the OCP, including managing elements of the certification process, and resolving issues arising.
  • Supporting in engaging with fabrication T&I and HSSE managers for OCP design impact on fabrication, transportation, installation and HSSE.
  • Supporting in engaging with interface and package managers to ensure that all OCP design interfaces are aligned, planned and closed with appropriate quality and documentation.
  • Supporting in keeping aligned on overall development targets and deadlines, and ensure the OCP structural design meets these.
  • Support to manage and ensure overall OCP design acceptance and certification and schedule.
  • Supporting in engaging with O&M implementation managers for OCP design impact on the operational phase.
HSE & Quality Assurance
  • Support Quality managers on quality control tasks like fabrication kick off meetings, regular quality meetings, alignment with quality inspectors and inspections on site.
  • Ensure alignment with the safety in design, best practices and project policies.
  • Participate in the procurement activities associated with the OCP works and contribute to the project cost book
  • Manage contractors and sub-consultants, ensure that safety in design is appropriately accounted for in the designs and that quality requirements are met.
  • Ensure delivery of work packages within time and on budget.
Reporting
  • Ensure that all structural discipline related interfaces are properly coordinated, integrated, and managed accordingly to project deliverables.
  • Schedule and lead regular discipline meetings with project packages, contractors, and stakeholders to promptly identify and resolve interface issues
  • Communicate interface risk to the Engineering and Package Managers and other relevant project stakeholders.
  • Update line management related to project progress and interface risks.
Risk and Change Control
  • Work closely across all interfaces with; internal stakeholders, external design houses and Contractors to produce cost-effective and value added solutions.
  • Contribute to package Risk/Opportunity Register(s) and support the effective management and mitigation of identified risks and opportunities.
  • Ensure all lessons learned from the completed works are incorporated into future projects.
  • Support other necessary work within the OCP package.
  • Where requested support OSS onshore fabrication activities.
  • Where requested support OSS offshore T&I activities.
  • Where requested support OSS offshore hook-up works.
Compliance (Information Security Policies & Procedures)
  • Adhere to any applicable information security policies and procedures and identify and report security incidents and suspected weaknesses to the appropriate point(s) of contact.
  • Protect assets under care (e.g. laptops and other devices) and information/credentials against unauthorized access, sharing, and/or damage/loss, in accordance with the Information Classification and Handling Procedure.
  • Clear desks of all sensitive material and log off/ lock workstations at the end of the day and when leaving desk for a prolonged period in accordance with Acceptable Usage Policies.
  • Ensure not installing, copying or modifying of any software on equipment without authorization.
Quality Health and Safety Environment (QHSE)
  • This includes participating (when requested) in QHSE audits, office inductions, incident reporting and review of QHSE performances as applicable

Qualifications, Experience, & Skills

Preferred Qualifications:
  • BS Degree in a relevant engineering discipline (Civil or Mechanical) is mandatory.
Preferred Experience:
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in structural engineering role;
  • Chartered Structural Engineer preferred;
  • Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • Working in multi-cultural and multi-discipline teams.

Job-Specific Skills:
  • Ability to carry out structural analysis & finite element analysis
  • Familiar with marine simulation software, AutoCAD & ANSYS
  • Experience of engaging and working alongside of external consultants;
  • Good team player with ability to work in a project office environment;
  • Proficient with all Microsoft Office applications;
  • Experience with Information Management and BIM systems (desirable);
  • Reliable, flexible with good to detail;
  • Work well both autonomously and within a team;
  • Logical and well organized with ability to prioritise;
  • Able to manage workload by understanding requirements, deadlines;
  • Able to work under pressure
