AECOM SECURES ROLE IN 49MW UK SOLAR DEVELOPMENT
Industry NewsSource - reNews - AECOM lands 49MW UK solar scope
Progress on a 49MW renewable energy generation and storage project in South Yorkshire is advancing as developer OnPath Energy names specialist infrastructure consultancy AECOM as the lead consultant for the scheme.
The project, known as the Common Farm Solar Energy Park, will be located near the Todwick Road Industrial Estate in Dinnington. With an installed capacity of up to 49MW, it will generate enough electricity to meet the annual needs of approximately 18,800 family homes and will offset over 11,470 tonnes of carbon dioxide from the electricity supply network each year.
In addition to the solar energy park, a 50MW battery storage facility will connect directly to the Thurcroft electricity sub-station, located around three kilometres to the north. This will enhance grid efficiency, support the integration of more renewable energy, and strengthen the UK’s long-term energy security.
AECOM’s role encompasses all aspects of site development, including planning, transport, engineering, environmental management, and power system design. They are working closely with OnPath Energy to ensure the successful delivery of the project.
A detailed ecology and biodiversity strategy will ensure that the Common Farm Solar Energy Park provides a net gain in biodiversity for the local community. This includes transforming the ground beneath and surrounding the solar panels into a vibrant wildflower meadow.
Consultation with local stakeholders is ongoing to determine how the project’s annual £50,000 community benefits fund—amounting to more than £2m over its operational lifespan—can best support local priorities.
OnPath Energy anticipates construction to commence next summer, with completion expected by the end of 2026. The development phase is set to provide significant opportunities for regional subcontractors and suppliers.
AECOM is already collaborating with OnPath Energy on the Barnsdale Solar Energy Park project near Leeds, further solidifying their partnership.
Martin Kellerman, Construction Director at OnPath Energy, commented:
“The Common Farm Solar Energy Park will deliver a host of environmental, energy security, and community benefits to the local area while increasing OnPath Energy’s contribution to the UK’s critical net-zero targets.
“AECOM brings a wealth of experience in delivering large-scale infrastructure projects like this one and has proven expertise in managing the diverse aspects of its development.
“We’ve been impressed by their performance on our Barnsdale Solar Energy Park and are delighted to be continuing our collaboration with them on this important project.”
