VESTAS V90 RETROFIT SYSTEM LAUNCHED

Industry News

Source - Renews - Vestas V90 retrofit solution goes live

A pioneering retrofit project for enhancing the remote control and monitoring of aging Vestas V90 wind turbines, which are no longer supported by the original manufacturer, is now operational for the first time in the field.

The new M100 system from Bachmann Electronic, featuring the UIO106 input/output module, is now deployed at a wind farm managed by a confidential operator in northern Germany.

This innovative system includes a Bachmann MC212 controller module, installed in the wind turbine's nacelle. It provides the plant operator with remote access to the turbine’s functionalities and real-time data, a capability previously unavailable without manufacturer support. Meanwhile, the M100 station, positioned at the turbine's tower base, facilitates service technicians' access to the control unit.

The M100 system reads the service key switch and displays remote access information, prioritizing on-site service and relaying details about remote access and operational status.

Communication between the M100 station and the MC212 module is achieved through a fiber optic cable, which was initially installed for a Bachmann CMS system, in conjunction with media converters.

Bachmann Electronic and the wind farm operator are already engaged in discussions for future development phases. Following the successful creation of a prototype for the V90 fleet, the solution is set to move into mass production.
