SULMARA COMPLETES FORMOSA 4 SITE SURVEY
Industry NewsSource - reNews - Formosa 4 site survey wraps up
Sulmara, a Scottish subsea specialist, recently finalized a site characterization survey for Taiwan's Formosa 4 offshore wind project.
Utilizing Synera Renewable Energy’s site, Sulmara implemented a multi-platform strategy that employed sensors to achieve the desired data coverage and quality.
To ensure consistent quality data, Sulmara deployed a dedicated survey vessel, a large USV, and a smaller nearshore USV. This innovative method marked the first of its kind in Taiwan.
James Hope, Sulmara’s regional director for the eastern hemisphere, expressed his pride in the team and the collaboration with Synera Renewable Energy (SRE) and National Taiwan University, which made the Formosa 4 Offshore Wind Farm site investigation successful.
“I am proud of our team and of our collaborative work with SRE and the National Taiwan University to make the Formosa 4 Offshore Wind Farm site investigation campaign possible. When we began assessing the needs of this project, it was clear that a conventional approach would not be suitable due to the challenges in maintaining data coverage and quality across the entire site, which would have brought risks for our client. Our ethos is always to think differently and develop an approach which will deliver the best data for our clients’ project needs. We developed a multi-platform approach for the project, to deliver continuity and consistency in data acquisition from offshore to landfall.”
The Formosa 4 offshore wind project, a joint venture between Synera Renewable Energy and local partners, is a significant renewable energy initiative situated about 19 km off the coast of Tongxiao Township, Miaoli County, in north-west Taiwan.
Established in 2019, Sulmara has quickly expanded to become a global subsea services provider, with a workforce of over 200 employees and offices in the Americas, Europe, and Asia.
