SOUTH KOREA’S ‘JEONNAM 1’ ENTERS COMMISSIONING PHASE!
The pioneering Jeonnam 1 Offshore Wind Farm in Korea successfully completed the installation of all wind turbines back in late December 2024.
With a commercial operations deadline for the first half of 2025, the windfarm located off the south-west coast of South Korea will be the country’s first commercial offshore wind energy project. Generating 99MW of energy, the 10 wind turbines installed will supply green electricity to the equivalent of more than 100,000 households.
Jesper Krarup Holst, COP Partner, Head of APAC, and Chief Operating Officer of the Jeonnam 1, 2 and 3 portfolio said
“Completing the turbine installation before year-end demonstrates the dedication, expertise, and collaborative spirit of everyone involved, CIP and SK Innovation E&S have provided unwavering support throughout, and we are incredibly proud to deliver this essential step towards full-scale clean power generation.
Jeonnam 1 is poised to play a meaningful role in South Korea’s renewable energy future, and we look forward to the next phase as we prepare for commissioning and energisation.”
The project will significantly contribute to South Korea’s sustainability goals of converting 20% of the country’s electricity to renewable sources by 2030.
The Jeonnam 1 project team have closely engaged with local communities, businesses, and stakeholders to share development profits, which are revitalising domestic jobs and supporting the growth of Korea’s national offshore wind industry.
The project has established contracts with Korean suppliers and uses local ports and facilities.
A fantastic achievement for all involved, and for the wider team implementing South Korea’s wider sustainability goals.
