PLAN FOR 30MW OF IRISH WIND UNVEILED BY EDF!

Industry News

EDF has revealed plans to develop a 30MW wind farm in Ireland! The onshore wind farm will be approximately 14KM north-west of Athlone Town.
The team look to submit their planning application and assessment report to support the project in late 2024.
Subject to approval, the Carrowkeel Wind Farm, has proposed operation date of 2028. The project team have already begun their environmental studies, collecting data, mapping site constraints and the consulting of local communities.

Jenny Howard, Head of Development at EDF Renewables Ireland says “We’re delighted to be announcing our plans for Carrowkeel Wind Farm, which if constructed will power the equivalent of over 20,000 Irish homes with low-carbon, renewable electricity. After a summer where we’ve seen the effects of climate change on weather systems across Europe, and last winter where Irish consumers faced massive hikes in their domestic electricity bills, the need for new renewable energy sources has never been more urgent”.

The site has potential to accommodate up to five wind turbines with a maximum tip height of up to 180m. The project is looking to also include access tracks, a substation, underground cabling, and grid connection link to the national electricity grid.

Another exciting development for the renewable energy industry and for all of the team at EDF!
